Robert & Doris Folk Scholarship
Bob and Doris Folk were life long residents of Homer. Bob entered World War II as a flyer and was shot down while on a mission over Belgium. He was captured and spent 1-1/2 years as a prisoner of war. After his liberation Bob came back to work for his father in the oil business and founded what is now the Folk Oil Company. Bob and Doris raised two children who both graduated from Homer High School.
Bob passed away in 1999 and Doris in 2005. The Folk Family Fund was established in their memory. Both Bob and Doris have given back to the community in many ways over the years. Establishing this scholarship is a way to make sure their efforts continue. They both realized the importance of furthering ones education beyond high school.
This scholarship is $2,000 yearly and is renewable for three years upon meeting certain requirements to a Homer High School graduate that plans on attending a four-year Michigan Public State University. Recipients of this scholarship should demonstrate financial need, leadership skills, community involvement, and academic performance. Applicants cannot be a relative of the Folk Family.
